Steven Latré
Preaching the AI Gospel at imec
“If you had asked me five years ago whether artificial intelligence could surpass human intelligence, I might still have hesitated,” Steven Latré said a few months ago. “Now, I am sure. It’s only a matter of time.”
Latré obviously knows what he is talking about: he heads the AI research group at imec, has written more than a hundred scientific publications on the subject and also teaches about it as a professor at the University of Antwerp. Not entirely surprisingly, he also sees a great future for AI within imec.
“I am of course biased, but I believe AI is probably now what the internet was in the 1990s. It is still in its infancy but it cannot help but grow, and therein lies a great opportunity for imec. And eventually AI will be the catalyst for a lot of imec competences within the health sector, connectivity and sensors, but equally within a host of other domains.”
