Improving the Ecological Performance of Our Farms and Food Industry

A bioengineer in environmental technology and PhD in biosystems engineering, Veerle Van linden’s main focus at the Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is evaluating sustainable agricultural production processes. She uses life-cycle analyses to assess, understand and improve the ecological performance of our farms and food industry.

Within the institute, Van linden also supports research on climate-neutral greenhouses, combining radically new and existing energy-saving technologies, and on heat and mass transfer. Fun fact: between 2009 and 2015, Van linden was five times Belgian champion in the 5000 metres and she also won the Antwerp 10 Miles four times. A healthy mind in a healthy body, you know.
