Venturing Into a New Era of Data Sovereignty

For more than twenty years, Björn De Vidts has been striving for a data-driven society where citizens and companies regain control over their data. Since 2022, he is the acting CEO of athumi, the new data utility company founded by the Flemish government – venturing into an era of trust and data sovereignty.

De Vidts studied geography at Ghent University and later completed a management course at Vlerick Business School. He joined Digital Flanders in 2016, where he initially served as the head of the data and services integration department, before leading the data solutions team. In 2022, the Flemish government appointed him as the transition manager of athumi.

Throughout his career, Björn De Vidts has been driven by a passion for data. At athumi, he collaborates with a dedicated team to develop products and solutions that facilitate seamless and secure data integration for businesses. The primary objective of athumi is to establish trust in data collaboration and foster the emergence of new data-driven ecosystems and cross-sectoral innovations.
