Chris Van Hoof
Developing Technology for a Society in Which Everyone Lives Healthy Lives
Besides having a PhD in electrical engineering and being Vice President R&D at imec, Chris Van Hoof is also general director at the One Planet Research Centre. The multidisciplinary research facility has some one hundred scientist and engineers in its ranks working with the latest chip and digital technologies to create a society where everyone can live healthy lives and have access to sustainable food.
More so, “I believe that personalised nutrition, sustainable food production, less waste and preventive healthcare are essential factors in improving our world for generations to come,” Van Hoof says. “And I think innovation and technology – from hardware to AI – are key tools to make that happen.” The KU Leuven professor is therefore never interested in innovation for innovation’s sake. He wants to develop innovations that – once implemented – change the world.
