Margriet Drouillon
R&D in the Field of Aquaculture and Blue Life Sciences
Margriet Drouillon acts as Chief Business Officer for Ghent University’s Research & Development activities in the field of aquaculture and blue life sciences since 2011. As of 2023, Prof. Dr. ir. Drouillon is also a part-time professor in blue innovation and acceleration, linked to the industry-endowed Chair Marine Bio-Economy: From Research to Sustainable Business.
Drouillon graduated in Bioscience Engineering in 1998 and obtained a PhD in Applied Biological Sciences in 2004 – both from KU Leuven. She also holds an Executive MBA from Vlerick Business School. Drouillon oversees the commercialization of new research findings to marketable technologies and products in close collaboration with faculty members and senior researchers. She has over fifteen years of experience in technology transfer at large.
The professor has overseen numerous research projects, especially in collaboration with industry partners and/or with the purpose of a commercial application (spin-off, license, technology transfer at large). Drouillon is also the representative of Ghent University in the Blue Economy Cooperative Research Centre in Australia, a prestigious collaborative partnership – uniting 44 companies, research partners and government institutions across the globe to advance the scaling up and uptake of new blue technologies.
