An Expert on the Impact of Artificial Intelligence and Deepfakes

Tom Van de Weghe is an award-winning journalist and geopolitics & technology expert for the Belgian public broadcaster VRT. He worked as news correspondent from Beijing and Washington, D.C.

In 2018, Van de Weghe was awarded a prestigious fellowship by Stanford University. As a J.S. Knight research fellow, he investigated the impact of artificial intelligence and deepfakes. Together with the London School of Economics and Google, he developed a training course for journalists on machine learning. Upon his return to VRT in 2020, he turned his attention to investigating disinformation and geopolitics, while also covering the war in Ukraine. Recently, Tom Van de Weghe joined Wintercircus as curator.
