James Murphy

Genius Producer, Label Boss, DJ and Musician Creates World-Renowned Immersive Sound Experience

James Murphy is one of this century’s key figures in music. As founder and frontman of LCD Soundsystem, he created four of the most acclaimed albums of the new millennium: LCD Soundsystem, Sounds of Silver, This Is Happening and American Dream. Their Pitchfork ratings: 8.2, 9.2, 9.2 and 8.5.

In between, Murphy also turned out the legendary running track ‘45:33’ for Nike, which is actually 46:04 long, but who’s counting? And with his band, the musical genius fronted unforgettable live shows, including the 2011 near-four-hour Madison Square Garden extravaganza – documented in the Shut Up and Play the Hits documentary.

But the New Yorker is also founder of the DFA label, a renowned producer whose credits include Arcade Fire’s Reflektor, an in-demand remixer and, of course, a notorious DJ. In 2013 he even created the trailblazing and world-renowned ‘immersive sound experience’ Despacio with 2manydjs, which is hitting Belgium for the very first time during FTI Gent.
