Christine Durinx
Bringing AI to VIB
In 2022, Christine Durinx moved from SIB (Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics) to VIB (Flemish Institute of Biotechnology). With the aim of further developing computational biology, artificial intelligence and health – fields in which she has accumulated considerable expertise – she was appointed codirector, alongside Jérôme Van Biervliet.
“The move to VIB is a unique opportunity for me to contribute to the life sciences ecosystem here,” she said at the time. “More and more ground-breaking research is relying on big data – also in personalised healthcare – and I believe we can help shape this.” VIB is an independent research institute where nearly two thousand top scientists from all over the world conduct research on molecular mechanisms, and how they control humans, animals and plants.
